Course Description

The above programmes are designed as per the requirements of the Board of Engineers Malaysia and strictly follows the guidelines according to their Engineering Accreditation Manual. The major requirements are the Programme Educational Objectives and the Programme Outcomes.

In line with this the curriculums have been designed to incorporate the required objectives and outcomes.

OBJECTIVES OF THE ENGINEERING PROGRAMMES

  • Graduates are able to apply the broaden and in-depth knowledge of Engineering to analyse the practical problems and think creatively to generate innovative solutions using appropriate technologies.
  • Graduates are able to adapt to different roles and responsibilities and demonstrate leaderships in solving emerging engineering problems within the organization and society at national and international levels.
  • Graduates sustain intellectual curiosity and know how to continue to learn not only in  areas that are relevant to  Engineering, but also that are important to society

ENGINEERING PROGRAMME OUTCOMES

Curriculum
  • Internationally benchmarked engineering curriculum with strong emphasis on electrical energy generation and distribution.
  • It covers all essential areas of modern day electronic and electrical applications.
  • Other skills needed for practice as engineers are embedded into the curriculum, such as communication and IT skills.

YEAR 1

The modules offered in this programme provides an appropriate platform for an Engineering professional to understand the basic principles of engineering in the areas of Circuit Analysis, Electrical and Electronic principles, Electronic Devices, Instrumentation and Measurement and Engineering materials. A sound exposure of laboratory work is also included by offering modules such as Engineering workshop and materials lab, and Electronic Devices and Circuits lab.

Further a thorough grounding in principles of IT and management are provided by the Programming and Management modules such as Engineering Mathematics and Introduction to programming provide the basic academic skills required to meet the demands of employers. The Engineer in Society provides students with the knowledge required as a professional engineer in terms of ethics and the environment.

YEAR 2

In Year 2 you start specializing in modules that develop the necessary underlying knowledge and skills in the field of Automotive Electronics. Further in-depth  Electronic skills are developed here with modules such as Analogue and Digital Electronics, Electrical Machines apart from the core modules, Engineering Design, Power Trains and Transportation Systems and Internal Combustion Engines. To obtain practical hands-on skills in these areas special laboratory modules have also been included. A common theme that underlines all the awards is the development of innovative thinking with the Creativity and Innovation module.

YEAR 3

Specialised knowledge and skills in the area of Control Engineering, Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer, Vehicle Engineering, Aerodynamics and Microprocessors and Microcontrollers are a critical focus of this level. There is further development of the ability to apply relevant engineering skills with strong critical thinking and analysis. To support the project work in the final year, the Research Method for Engineers module will enable students to understand the techniques of literature review. Further understanding of the learning of the first three years of the programme can be exhibited by doing the Mini Project.

YEAR 4

The final year Engineering modules provide the necessary industry application technological skills which become very useful for employment upon graduation. These modules include, PLC and Pneumatic Systems, VLSI Design, System Modeling and Simulations, Product Creation Technology and Project Management .You will enhance your technical capability and understanding how to innovate, generate and manage the creation of new ideas and problem solving.

The Project Phase 1 (Investigation) in Automotive Electronic Engineering will enable students to take on R&D with commercialization. The Automotive Electronic Engineering Final Year Project Phase 2 (Implementation) also develops the academic and practical aspects of your chosen areas of study and reinforces your independent learning skills. This is where you will demonstrate higher level critical thinking analysis and solutions development skills which will enhance your employability.

Entry Requirements

Bachelors (Hons) Degree Programme

  • Good principal passes at STPM level in Mathematics and Physical Sciences and 4 credits at SPM; or
  • Good passes at ‘A’ Levels in Mathematics and Physical Sciences and 4 grade C passes at ‘O’ levels / GCE; or
  • The MAHSA Foundation or equivalent; or
  • A qualification that MAHSA accepts as equivalent to the above

Direct Entry to Year 2 of the Degree

  • Students with Diploma or Higher National Diploma in Engineering from any college
  • Successful completion of studies in another recognized institute with academic credits equivalent to Year 1 of an Honours degree (Subject to the approval of the MAHSA Academic Board)

Engineering is central to an exciting range of businesses and industries, including space, construction, transport, cosmetics, medicine, food, fashion and much more. With engineering, you can follow your interests – if you like sport, you can work as an engineer improving the performance of new tennis rackets. Engineers work in offices, laboratories, film studios, in the outdoors and underground. Engineering today is closely linked with technology, and plays a major role in many technological advances and new device production. You might be reading this on your phone, and that will be thanks to engineers. As an engineer you could be designing colour-matching technology to determine the best make-up for different skin tones or working as part of a team to improve the performance of artificial hip joints.

Automotive engineers are involved in the design, manufacture and operation of ground-based vehicles, such as motorcycles, automobiles, buses and trucks and their respective engineering subsystems. They are involved in the whole product design lifecycle from the initial concept through to delivery, but generally work in one of three main areas:

  • design;
  • research and development;
  • production.

Automotive engineers need to have a combination of engineering and commercial skills in order to deliver projects within budget. Once established, they usually specialise in a particular area, for example structural design, exhaust systems or engines.
