The Australian Matriculation (AUSMAT) programme was introduced in Methodist College Kuala Lumpur as one of the pre-university programmes in the year 2000. The School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) of Western Australia, on behalf of the Government of Western Australia, oversees the implementation of the AUSMAT programme according to SCSA guidelines.
The AUSMAT programme is well-structured with a balanced emphasis on coursework and external examinations. Academic scores are based on continuous school assessments and external examinations held in November. Successful students are awarded the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE).
The WACE qualification is internationally recognised for admission into universities in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, United States, United Kingdom, Singapore and other foreign countries, as well as to local private institutions of higher learning. Methodist College Kuala Lumpur AUSMAT students have gone on to study medicine, engineering, biomedical science, computer science, commerce, mass communication and other specialisations. They have taken up rewarding and interesting career paths at home and abroad.
Students select a combination of 5 ATAR courses with at least one from List A and one from List B; Students must take English or EALD to satisfy the English requirement.
*These courses are only offered in January and March intake. August intake students will need to re-register their courses in the January semester and allowed to choose different course combination depending on student meeting the course requirement.
