Malaysia requires more knowledge workers to help it to propel towards the knowledge-based economy. The Doctor of Philosophy degree programme in Open University Malaysia (OUM) has been designed to produce cutting-edge knowledge workers in information and communication technology and cater to the needs of industries, academic and research institutions. In particular, the objective of this programme is to produce high-calibre researchers in critical areas in information and communication technology.

Research Methodology This course focuses on the research elements, components, and processes in scientific research, its purpose and importance. Various types of research, characteristics of scientific research, logical methods of reasoning and hypothetic-deductive method are discussed. The course will also focus on formulating research problem, research objectives, theoretical framework, hypothesis formulation, research design, data collection techniques, scale and measurements, reliability and validity, data analysis methods, report writing and presentation. |

Doctoral Seminar In this course, learners will identify the basic area of study for research. Learners will present the literature review, methodology, and theories relevant for the proposed research area. After each presentation, learners will make the necessary amendments and improvements of the paper for subsequent seminars. |

Part II |
**Learners will be conducting the research and prepare the thesis under the guidance of supervisor(s). The areas of research in this field of study are as follows: |

Part III |
**In Part III, the learner has completed the thesis and ready to submit for examination. An internal examiner and one external examiner will be appointed to assess the Ph.D. (Information Technology) thesis in the Viva Voce session. |
