This programme instils graduates with enhanced knowledge, expertise and skills in the field of Medical Microbiology. Through individualised education methods, we produce analytical, creative graduates who actively engage in innovative and competitive research in basic and translational areas of microbiology.
At state-of-the-art laboratories, students will get valuable opportunities for collaborative and interdisciplinary projects in the fields of microbiology and immunology.
As qualified and trained medical microbiologists, graduates have a myriad of exciting career opportunities. They can build their careers at hospital microbiology laboratories (diagnostic / infection control / laboratory management) and public health laboratories. They can also be involved with product development / research and development (R&D) in microbiology, biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries.
The door is also open for them to become independent entrepreneurs by establishing microbiology laboratories. In addition, graduates can join the world of academia for the pursuit of research, education and scholarships in the field of medical microbiology, where they can pursue a doctoral degree and enhance their expertise and opportunities further.

| Candidates must have obtained any one of the following qualifications before admission to the M Med Sc (Microbiology) programme: | A Bachelor’s degree in Medicine (MBBS / MD), Dentistry (BDS), Pharmacy (B Pharm);
OR |
| A Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology or Biomedical Sciences or Biotechnology or in any other relevant life sciences with minimum CGPA of 2.75 or equivalent, as accepted by the Senate, QIU;
OR |
|
| A Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology or Biomedical Sciences or Biotechnology and other relevant life sciences with minimum CGPA of 2.50 and not meeting CGPA of 2.75, can be accepted subject to rigorous internal assessment;
OR |
|
| A Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology or Biomedical Sciences or Biotechnology in any other relevant life sciences with minimum CGPA of 2.50, can be accepted subject to a minimum of 5 years working experience in relevant field;
OR |
|
| Any other qualification equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Science that is accepted by the Senate, QIU |
