Course Description

As life experiences in this modern world assume increasing complexities and the change in social landscape may cause complications and confusion, many turn to the study of Psychology to understand the functional equilibrium between lifestyle, cultures and the human being.

The Psychology degree programme is constructed to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills, which will assist them to achieve healthy adjustments in their social existence and occupational well-being. This degree programme exhibits two major features; namely, a balanced course exposure and three Co-Operative Placements through workplace experience.

Students will be exposed to learning abstract fundamentals in the discipline of Psychology, and also applied Psychology (eg. Industrial & Organizational, Educational, Clinical) to gain a taste of their practical values in social and community services.

This comprehensive training will enable students to derive a rudimentary understanding of the social reality of workplace environments in the larger society outside. Students will develop considerable self-confidence in meeting challenges coming their way upon graduation..

Assessments

Coursework percentage: 60% and written examination percentage: 40%.

Entry Requirements

Qualification Academic Requirement STPM/ ‘A’ Levels Minimum 2 Principals. UEC Minimum 5 Credits CPU CPU – Min. average score of 60% in 6 subjects. National Matriculation Min CGPA 2.5 Diploma/ Advanced Diploma/ Degree/ equivalent Min. pass (exemptions are at the sole discretion of the faculty after review of transcripts & syllabus; 30 credit hours as per MOE ruling) WAEC/NECO Maximum aggregate of 15 points over 5 subjects Other Year 12 Equivalent Minimum overall average score of 60% UCSI Foundation in Arts Pass SAM/ AUSMAT/ WACE SAM – Minimum average score of 60% in 5 subjects *Discretion is given to the faculty to deal with borderline academic requirements.

For those aspiring to pursue a professional career in the challenging field of Psychology, the career prospects are indeed broad for graduates trained in this field. Major employment areas include commercial advertising, business and marketing research, public relations, human resource development, education, consumer behavior research, crisis management centres, health and medical centres and many more. With further learning in the field, graduates can also enter promising careers in professional counseling, consultant, corporate training, lectureship and therapist.
