Course Overview

The Foundation in Arts is a one-year, full-time intensive programme designed to provide students with the knowledge and learning skills required for a smooth transition into an undergraduate degree at UTAR.

Its flexible programme structure allows students to complete the Foundation programme at their preferred pace within a maximum of two years. The programme includes courses that strengthen students' academic knowledge, introduce developments in relevant fields of study and foster critical-thinking skills. It also develops students' presentation skills and English-language proficiency.

Entry Requirements

  • SPM with credits in 5 subjects; or
  • O-Level with credits in 5 subjects; or
  • Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) with Grade B in 3 subjects; or
  • Other equivalent qualifications.

Additional Requirements for Architecture Pathways

Applicants entering a Foundation programme leading to the Bachelor of Science (Honours) Architecture who do not have a credit in SPM, O-Level or UEC Art (Pendidikan Seni) must:

  • Submit three A3-sized drawings in hard copy using any medium, such as pencil or watercolour, together with the application documents.
  • Submit an 8–10 minute digital video recording showing the applicant creating one of the three drawings. The recording should clearly show the applicant's face and close-up views of the drawing. The applicant should briefly explain the idea or meaning behind the drawing and why they have chosen architecture.
  • Attend an interview if requested by the assessment panel.
