The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Chinese Studies develops an in-depth understanding of Chinese history, literature, language and culture. Students also build practical capabilities in speaking, writing, research, analysis and critical evaluation.
The programme includes subjects related to Malaysian studies and mass communication, helping students understand the history and development of the Malaysian Chinese community alongside Chinese culture in local and international contexts.
Graduates are prepared for opportunities in education, writing, journalism, publishing, translation, research and administration in public and private organisations.
The programme is recognised by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and the Public Service Department of Malaysia (JPA).
UTAR states that the department has a comprehensive teaching team of lecturers with doctoral qualifications and one of the largest Chinese Studies student enrolments in Malaysia.
