Course Description

Chinese Medicine is a rapidly expanding profession and an obvious growth area for integrated and interdisciplinary professional training. Compare with Western Medicine, Chinese Medicine treatment and Chinese herbs are more natural and less of chemical content. It provides another choice for human being to treat diseases.

The Bachelor of Chinese Medicine (Honours) at UTAR aims to produce Chinese Medicine practitioners who possess in-depth knowledge Chinese Medicine’s unique principles, diagnosis and treatment employing acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine and other therapeutic approaches, as well as western medical sciences and diagnosis.

The UTAR's Chinese Medicine degree programme has a diversified curriculum with 60% on Chinese Medicine and 30% on Western Medicine. Students will be equipped with a strong foundation in the principles, theories and practices of Chinese materia medica, acupuncture and ‘Tui-Na’(massage).

During their fifth year, TCM students will be exposed to clinical training, of which they will be attached to the TCM wing of the newly opened UTAR Hospital at Kampar.

Entry Requirements
  • UTAR Foundation Programme
  • STPM: Grade C/C+ in 2 relevant subjects depending on the programmes (except M.B.B.S. and Quantity Surveying)
  • A-Level: Grade D in 2 or 3 relevant subjects
  • UEC: Grade B in 5 relevant subjects
  • SAM: ATAR 70 and Grade B in at least 2 relevant subjects
  • CPU: An average of 70% in 6 relevant subjects (depending on programmes)
  • Matriculation Certificate, Ministry of Education
  • Foundation/Diploma in the relevant fields
  • Other recognised equivalent qualifications
