Course Overview

Chinese medicine is a growing healthcare profession that offers traditional approaches to diagnosis, treatment and disease prevention. It includes practices such as acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine and Tui Na massage.

The Bachelor of Chinese Medicine (Honours) develops knowledge of Chinese medicine principles, diagnosis and treatment while also introducing students to Western medical sciences and diagnostic methods.

Approximately 60% of the curriculum focuses on Chinese medicine and is taught in Mandarin, while around 30% covers Western medicine and is taught in English. Students develop practical skills in Chinese materia medica, herbal preparation, acupuncture and Tui Na.

During the final year, students undertake clinical training locally, in China or through a combination of both. Clinical placement may also be undertaken at the Traditional and Complementary Medicine Centre of UTAR Hospital in Kampar.

Entry Requirements

• UTAR Foundation Programme
• STPM: Grade C/C+ in 2 relevant subjects depending on the programmes (except M.B.B.S. and Quantity Surveying)
• A-Level: Grade D in 2 or 3 relevant subjects
• UEC: Grade B in 5 relevant subjects
• SAM: ATAR 70 and Grade B in at least 2 relevant subjects
• CPU: An average of 70% in 6 relevant subjects (depending on programmes)
• Matriculation Certificate, Ministry of Education
• Foundation/Diploma in the relevant fields
• Other recognised equivalent qualifications
