Programmes in this field have a general synthesis of one or more of the biological and physical sciences, or a specialisation which draws from the biological and physical sciences. It involves systematic study through experiment, observation and deduction to produce reliable explanations of phenomena with reference to the biological and physical world.

Biological sciences is the study of the structure, function, reproduction, growth, evolution and behaviour of living organisms.

Physical sciences is the systematic study of knowledge that aims through experiment, observation and deduction to produce reliable explanations of phenomena with reference to the material and physical world. Areas of study in this group include physics, chemistry, earth science, astronomy and more.
