Institut Pendidikan Guru (IPG) is an institution of higher learning (IPT) managed and funded by the federal government. Previously known as Maktab Perguruan, the institution has since been revamped and upgraded.

The main course offered at IPG is the Program Ijazah Sarjana Muda Perguruan (PISMP) which is offered only to SPM school leavers. However, before students can pursue the PISMP programme, they would first need to complete the Program Persediaan Ijazah Sarjana Muda Perguruan (PPISMP) which is a 12-month preparatory programme. Students who successfully complete both PISMP and PPISMP programmes will receive a bachelor's degree.

What is PISMP?

PISMP is a four-year bachelor’s degree programme (with honours) offered by the Ministry of Education, Malaysia at selected IPG throughout the country. The programme prepares candidates for a teaching career in various specialisations at public primary schools.

Candidates who pass the one-year preparatory programme will be awarded a PPISMP certificate of completion and be offered to pursue PISMP for four years (eight semesters) at an IPG determined by the Ministry.

Both PPISMP and PISMP are conducted full-time.
