As it is known, an integral part of modern Tokyo is the technology and convenience that has overrun the city, from the abundance of signage lit up at night to cars zipping throughout the city, it has brought with it a busy energy felt throughout the city. In the seemingly chaotic motions of daytime corporate Tokyo and its vibrant nightlife scene, there is an order in which each individual has to take in their own path.

The term ‘Ryokaku’ is Japanese for passerby; an individual existing in a particular place purely by chance. It is also the theme used by the graduating batch of interior designers of The One Academy’s School of Interior Architecture and Design for their online graduation exhibition. RYOKAKU D. EX 1605 represents the order within the fast pace of Tokyo city dwellers, whereby each individual has to take their own path and symbolises the way in which this group of graduates met and have embarked on this journey together.

The graduating batch of BIAD1605, a team of eight unique individuals channel the essence of roaming through the fast-paced, dazzling city lights after dark and want to bring you along for the ride as they embark on this journey through modern Tokyo.

The graduation exhibition showcases the design projects of 8 passionate future interior designers, featuring: Tang Ker Nee, Stephanie Tan Zi Jun, Hang Lai Man, Low Wen Ying, Lim Joe Yi, Tham Cheau Yee, Shirley Ho Xue Li and Samantha Yoon Hui Enn. Launched via Facebook on the 30 th of May, the graduation exhibition is a treat for the eyes as each designer has put up their portfolio showcasing creativity and skills. Having designed various public spaces such as a mental health rehabilitation centre, a youth community hub, indoor park and more, it is clear that the interior design industry has gained some serious young talents.
