Soaring upwards – the achievements of higher education institutions in Malaysia

From world university rankings to national policies on openness to international higher education, Malaysian higher education institutions are making their mark globally.

The government of Malaysia is committed in providing the best and the highest quality of higher education to its students. Several initiatives have been introduced to produce holistic graduates with balanced traits and an edge in entrepreneurship.

Some of the initiatives that have already been implemented include the iCGPA (Integrated Cumulative Grade Point Average) and the CEO@Faculty programme. In iCGPA, a matrix is used to display the GPAs for eight specific attributes: knowledge, practical skills, social skills and responsibility, ethics and values, communication, problem solving, information management, and entrepreneurship.

The CEO@Faculty programme has seen an increase in public-private sector collaboration where CEOs are appointed as adjunct professors. Some of the companies participating in this initiative are AirAsia, Huawei Malaysia, Novartis Corporation, Shell Malaysia, Samsung, B Braun, CIMB group, Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), Maybank, Redtone International, Motorola Solutions, Asian Finance Bank, COMOS, and others.

These are just a couple of examples of the ongoing strategies carried out in line with the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2015-2025 (Higher Education) that has helped Malaysian higher education institutions improve the quality of higher education experience for its students. The infographic shows the highlights of higher education achievements of public and private universities in Malaysia.
