Public relations provides a versatile career path where you can find job opportunities in many different industries. However, PR is not just about meeting interesting people and being the centre of attention. The Job of a PR Manager

Public relations can be divided into two main responsibilities: promoting a brand and protecting it. The promotional side of PR helps businesses or individuals create a favourable reputation with the public through traditional media, social media, and blogs. The protective side of PR helps a company maintain their public reputation or defend it during crises.

PR managers or specialists craft media releases and develop social media programmes that shape public perception of their organisation and increase awareness of its work and goals. Some of the typical duties of a PR manager or specialist include writing press releases, responding to information requests from the media, maintaining effective communication with the public, maintaining a company’s image and identity, preparing speeches and arranging for interviews, evaluating public opinion and effectiveness of promotional programmes, and others.

In addition, it’s useful if you have a well-rounded education, and the ability to talk about a wide variety of subjects with a wide variety of people. Public relations managers usually work in offices, but they also deliver speeches, attend meetings and community activities, and occasionally travel. They may visit the place of business of their clients. Most public relations managers work full time during regular business hours. Long workdays are common, as is overtime.
