Overview
The International Islamic University Malaysia’s MBA programme was
launched in 1995. The MBA programme is specially designed to meet
the needs of potential managers and executives. The programme
is designed along the lines of American MBA programmes and
provides students with a strong foundation in the concepts, principles
and techniques of modern business management. The programme’s
convenient modular format provides mid-career professionals the
opportunity for both career advancement, as well as corporate
networking.
MBA Programme Objectives
Upon completing the programme, students will have gained:
- an integrated understanding of the core disciplines of management;
- develop the skills in solving business problems;
- develop leadership, communication and interpersonal skills through working in small groups and involvement in presentations and discussions;
- acquire in-depth knowledge of their chosen areas of specialisation;
- the motivation to implement change and to improve existing management practices; and
- an ability to withstand sustained pressure and to meet strict deadlines.
Course Structure (Full-time)
The total duration of study is 18 months or 4 semesters. Each semester
has a duration of 12 weeks. There will be three such semesters within
an academic year. Courses will generally be conducted on weekday
evenings (6.30 p.m. – 10.00 p.m.) with each course having a 3 ½ hour
lecture per week. Examinations will be conducted at the end of each
semester and will be followed by an inter-semester break.
Students are expected to take 4 courses per semester in the first 3 semesters. In the final semester, students are required to take 2 core courses and either complete a project paper related to their area of specialisation (6 credit hours) or take 2 elective courses in lieu of the project paper.
The programme now has four areas of specialisation:
- General Management
- Strategic Management
- Finance
- Islamic Banking and Finance
Ten of the 14 courses are common to all areas of specialisation. Each area of specialisation has four specialisation courses relevant to the respective subject area.
The project paper will be in the area of specialisation of the student,
and will be supervised by a member of the teaching faculty.
Candidates will be expected to submit a short written proposal of their
intended research topic towards the end of the third semester (i.e.
upon completion of their respective four specialised courses). The
final project paper will be due for submission at the end of the final
semester or a subsequent date as determined by the Project Paper
Committee.

Course Structure (Part-time)
The programme comprises 8 semesters spanning 2 years 6 months
to be covered on a part-time basis. Each semester is 12 weeks
long (not inclusive of examination period) and there will be 3 such
semesters in a calendar year. Students will typically take up 2 courses
per semester and 1 course in the final semester. Courses will be
conducted on Saturdays from 3.00 - 6.30 pm and Sundays from 9.00
am - 12.30 pm.
Each course will have a 3 ½ hour lecture each week; therefore, there will
be 7 hours of lecture per week. Exams will be conducted in between
semesters and will be followed by inter semester breaks. Students are
required to complete 11 core courses. In the fourth semester, they can
decide either to complete a Project Paper (6 credit hours) or to take
2 elective courses in lieu of the Project Paper. The Project Paper will
be in the area of management, and will be supervised by a member
of the teaching faculty. Students will be expected to submit a short
written proposal of their intended research topic towards the end of
the fourth semester. The final Project Paper will be due for submission
at the end of the final semester or a subsequent date as determined
by the Project Paper Committee.

Admission Requirements
For Full-time MBA
- A good bachelor’s degree from IIUM or any other institution of higher learning approved by the University Senate. A professional qualification which is certified equivalent to a degree under Malaysian laws and approved by the University Senate can also be considered.
- Work experience in a management or executive position would be an advantage. Candidates without work experience, who have done well in their studies (CGPA of 3.00 or more, or its equivalent) may be considered for admission into the full-time programme only.
- Proficiency in the English language (where necessary, candidates may be required to sit for an English language proficiency test).
- A minimum score of 550 (PBT-TOEFL), 213 (CBT-TOEFL), 6.0 (IELTS) or 6.0 (EPT) is required for international applicants.
- Ability in Mathematics/Quantitative Subjects
For Part-time MBA
- A good bachelor’s degree from IIUM or any other institution of higher learning approved by the University Senate. A professional qualification which is certified equivalent to a degree and approved by the University Senate can also be considered.
- A minimum of 2 years’ work experience in a management or executive position is required.
- Proficiency in the English language (where necessary, candidates may be required to sit for an English language proficiency test).
- A minimum score of 550 (PBT-TOEFL), 213 (CBT-TOEFL), 6.0 (IELTS) or 6.0 (EPT) is required for international applicants.

The above tuition fees exclude the fees for two additional courses should the student choose to take the courses in lieu of the project paper.
MBA Graduation Requirements
In order to graduate from the Master of Business Administration
programme, a student must have completed 48 credit hours of study
from the Management Centre with a grade no lower than C for any
subject and a final CGPA of 3.00.
Out of the 48 credit hours, 30 credit hours will come from these compulsory courses:
