Programme Synopsis
Specifically, this programme aims to:
- Provide fundamental knowledge and experience to learners in the field of competitive intelligence.
- Enhance analytical and conceptual skills of learners in handling competitive intelligence issues.
- Foster managerial skills and knowledge to learners in environmental scanning and developing strategic information systems.
With the continuous growth and advancement of the information
and communication technology coupled with the high intensity of
competition in the business environment, competitive intelligence
plays an important role in today’s organisations. Competitive
intelligence is a process by which key management people in the
organisation may assess the growth and development of an industry
and its capabilities in an effort to maintain or sustain the competitive
edge of an organisation. Consequently, information science plays an
important role in providing fundamental input towards more effective
planning and decision making in the organisation’s business
activities.
This programme is developed by OUM in collaboration with the
University of Paul Cezanne, Marseille, France, to meet the needs
of the industry in terms of human capacity building in the field of
competitive intelligence. To ensure best practices are adopted in line
with the established theories, this programme also incorporates the
leading institution in managing information science through the SAS
certified training programme.

Entry Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with honours in sciences, engineering, technology, applied sciences, business administration, computer sciences, information technology and related areas, OR
- Bachelor’s degree in sciences, engineering, technology, applied sciences, business administration, computer sciences, information technology and related areas, PLUS
- 2 years’ work experience or its equivalent.
OPEN ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR MASTER’S
PROGRAMMES
To be considered under Open Entry, applicants must meet the
following requirements:
- Be at least 35 years old on 1st of January (applied year) AND
possess STPM (minimum 1 principle) OR a recognised diploma or
equivalent, AND - Possess prior learning experience and / or knowledge relevant to the programme applied for
- Not applicable for research-based master’s programmes.
DURATION OF STUDY
A master’s degree programme can be completed within a minimum
period of two years.
Extension
Learners who are not able to complete their studies within the
stipulated maximum period under the doctoral degree programme
may apply for an extension of not more than three semesters or one
academic year by making a written application to the Director for
approval. The application must be made three months before the end
of the duration of study.
Failure to complete a programme within the stipulated duration may result in the termination of candidature.
