Weladavi Rahula – Pioneering Member of Malaysia’s First Senior Esports Team

June 25, 2024 | Achievement News

We are thrilled to announce that our very own Mr. Weladavi Rahula from the Student Services Department has become one of the pioneering members of Malaysia's first senior Esports team!

On 13 June 2024, Malaysia’s first senior Esports team was officially inaugurated by the Minister of Youth and Sports, YB Hannah Teoh in a ceremony which was held at the Orange Esports Club, Quill City Mall. This recognition is part of the Goodday Charge Boomers2Gamers campaign which started back in February 2024.

The event was attended by notable figures including Santharuban Thurai Sundaram, Chief Executive Officer Group of Companies (Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei) at Etika, and Amy Gan, VP of Marketing at Etika Sdn Bhd.

In recognition of their achievement, special prizes totalling RM 22,000 were awarded to the team members, and the initiative has been documented in the Malaysian Book of Records (MBOR).

This ground-breaking initiative sought to form Malaysia's first senior Esports team for individuals aged 50 and above. Out of 300 participants, Mr. Weladavi Rahula was selected as one of the top ten, earning a place in Malaysia's inaugural senior Esports team.

The Boomers2Gamers campaign aims to create a platform where the older generation can gain a better understanding of Esports, fostering meaningful connections with younger generations and promoting active aging.

Congratulations to Malaysia’s First Senior Esports gamer, Mr. Rahula! This initiative proves that age is just a number, and anyone can become a gamer to enhance their mental and physical capabilities!
