Course Overview

This diploma programme aims at producing graduates for employment in counselling-related fields and covers various aspects of human behaviours, affections and experiences. The programme is designed to provide students with a platform for building skills and knowledge in the field of counselling. Students learn to appreciate and understand different aspects of counselling skills, theoretical perspectives in psychology and basic management. Upon graduation, students should be familiar with counselling-related theories and basic skills as well as fundamental knowledge in psychology. Therefore, students are well prepared for their undergraduate study in counselling or psychology.

Entry Requirements

  1. SPM - 3 Credits in the relevant subjects
  2. O Level - 3 Grade C in the relevant subjects
  3. UEC - 3 Grade B in the relevant subjects
  4. Certificate - Relevant Certificate accredited by MQA

Compulsory subjects

  1. (1); (2); and (3) must include SPM Credit/ O Level Grade C/ UEC Grade B in one mathematics subject#
  2. (1); (2); and (3) must include SPM Credit/ O Level Grade C/ UEC Grade B in one science subject^
  3. (1); (2); and (3) must include SPM Pass/ O Level Grade E (Pass)/ UEC Grade C in English Language

Note:

  1. SPM holders must have at least a pass in Bahasa Melayu and SPM holders from Year 2013 onwards must have at least a pass in Sejarah.
  2. Students without a credit in SPM Bahasa Melayu are required to pass Bahasa Kebangsaan A before the award of Diploma.
  3. Equivalent qualifications/qualifications from other Institution of Higher Learning (IHL) will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  4. Subject to the Ministry of Education latest requirements.
  5. #Grade B and above in AMMS0104 General Mathematic conducted by TAR UMT is accepted as having fulfilled the Mathematics requirement for applicants with a pass in SPM/Grade D or Grade E (pass) in O Level/Grade C in UEC in the required Mathematics subject. 
  6. ^Grade B and above in FPGS0104 General Science conducted by TAR UMT is accepted as having fulfilled the Science requirement for applicants with a pass in SPM/Grade D or Grade E (pass) in O Level/Grade C in UEC in the required Science subject.
