FOSTERING A MULTICULTURAL LEARNING EXPERIENCEKuala Lumpur, 11 August 2016: The Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) hosts the launching ceremony of Malaysia’s first Omani Corner at its new campus in Technology Park Malaysia, Bukit Jalil today.

The Omani Corner will be placed in APU’s new campus, to educate and expose students to an internationalized study environment.

The Corner acts as an information resource center that consists of cultural decoration, books and iconic items that best represent the Omani culture. It aims to envisage collaboration between the Cultural Attaché and Malaysian Universities in enhancing cultural, economic and people-to-people ties between Oman and the rest of the global population in Malaysian Universities, particularly at APU.

The launching ceremony was officiated by YB Dato’ Seri Haji Idris bin Jusoh, Minister of Higher Education, Malaysia. Alongside him was His Excellency Mr. Riyadh Maki, Acting Ambassador, Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in Malaysia, Dr. Khamis Al Bulushi, Cultural Attaché, Embassy of Sultanate of Oman in Malaysia and Datuk Dr. Parmjit Singh, CEO, APIIT Education Group.FOSTERING A MULTICULTURAL LEARNING EXPERIENCE

The ministry is delighted about the launch of such a meaningful corner. This goes in line with our goals to expose the students to an international environment, so that Malaysian students can learn more from the international culture and vice versa,” said YB Dato’ Seri Haji Idris bin Jusoh, Minister of Higher Education, Malaysia.

Dr. Khamis Al Bulushi, Cultural Attache, Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman expressed that he was touched by the tireless efforts done by Omani students to preserve their culture while studying abroad in Malaysia. “Historically, Oman and Malaysia have rich relations which go back to the 18th century. Now, with such initiative, it is a continuation of our vision and mission we have set since the foundation of Oman Cultural Attaché Office of Oman Embassy,” he said.

We always support international and Malaysian students’ efforts in organizing events and celebrations related to their own culture, such as Independence Days and cultural festivals, as these events really creates a platform for integration among different nationalities and cultural background,” said Datuk Dr. Parmjit Singh, CEO of APIIT Education Group.

The ceremony also created opportunities for cultural exchange and learning for students who were present, as there were several Malaysian performances by the Ministry of Tourism and Omani performances by APU’s Omani students.
