Gap year programme not compulsory, says minister
April 4, 2017 | National NewsBESUT: Local university students are not forced to join the gap year programme, says Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh.
“There is no forcing students to participate in the programme, which is more of a government effort to encourage a caring culture among students in tertiary institutions,” he said.
Idris was speaking to the media during a teleconference interview from India to explain the gap year programme.
Launched last week, it will kick off in September for students in six local universities.
