INTI Students Make Their Mark as Future EPIC Leaders

December 19, 2014 | Campus News

Hundreds of INTI International University & Colleges students recently completed the EPIC Champions Programme, an innovative 21st century education initiative that prepares students to become future leaders.

The programme, which was organised in collaboration with Leadaprenuer, an organisation that focuses on online learning and leadership training, aims to provide students with leadership, communication, critical thinking, collaboration, management and innovative skills with the help of mentors, facilitators and international trainers from the UK and Switzerland.

The three-day programme included lessons on public speaking, creative thinking skills and business writing methods. The team with the best business proposal was selected from each campus and given the opportunity to represent their campuses in the grand finale..

During the finale of the programme, five campus-level winning teams went head-to-head in front of a panel of high profile corporate leaders representing the likes of Malayan Banking Berhad (Maybank), PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and Hewlett-Packard (HP) Enterprise Services.

Leonard Robinson, Standard & Best Practices Lead of Hewlett-Packard Enterprise Services, was impressed with the competition.

“EPIC Champions Programme exposes the students to the real world experience, as it gives them the opportunity to learn what the market, employers and people in general want, which is something that textbooks cannot teach them. I believe this will give them a better perspective of the real world and an edge over their peers when they enter the workforce in the future,” said Robinson.

Rohit Sharma, Chief Operating Officer of INTI International University & Colleges, who was amongst the audience, beamed with pride.

“Some of the students today impressed me with their mature thinking. The way they answered the questions posed by the judges was very thoughtful and it shows that we have some great gems within our student community,” Sharma said.

What is great about this programme is that apart from helping students develop leadership skills, this programme also focuses on developing the key 21st century skills that employers are demanding which are critical thinking, collaboration, communication and creativity,” he added.

The winning team from INTI International University, Nilai impressed the judges with their ‘Stepping Stone’ initiative, a self-sustaining entrepreneurial company that focuses on charity.

“The experience gained through EPIC Champions Programme is more than mere theoretical education. It has empowered me to become who I want to be and provided me with clear steps to help me achieve what I want in life,” said Kenny Lam Hua Jian, a first year Bachelors of Business Administration student and the team leader of Stepping Stone.

INTI champions the responsibility to align graduate outcomes with employer expectations. By providing a curriculum based on market needs and demands, with the added benefit of employer projects, leadership talks and internships, students are empowered to think beyond the classroom.
