At the Cheque Presentation Ceremony, Datuk Dr Tan Chik Heok, President of TAR University College, in his speech complimented the students for their hard work and their remarkable achievement in raising such a large sum of money within a few weeks. He elaborated: “I was informed that approximately 2,800 students from the four faculties, namely Faculty of Accountancy, Finance and Business, Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment, Faculty of Applied Sciences and Computing, and Faculty of Social Science, Arts and Humanities, participated in this noble project from October to December 2015. These students have invested a lot of their invaluable time and energy in carrying out this fund-raising project which includes planning the type of fund-raising project, seeking for sponsorships, staying back after class hours for discussion, training and rehearsing for their respective roles, cooking, selling food and other items in the campus – all these for the common purpose of raising as much money as possible for the less fortunate.”

“Along the way, besides the cultivation of civic responsibilities, our students have also learnt many valuable lessons about friendship, teamwork, leadership, altruism, discipline, perseverance, time management, handling conflicts and the list goes on. Such lessons are indispensable in building the character of our young generation who will eventually lead the country which cannot be obtained from any text book”, Datuk Dr Tan continued.

The fund-raising initiatives had received very encouraging support from many organisations and individuals who had sponsored the students’ project by either contributing in cash or in kind. A noteworthy sponsorship was from the YS Chong SBS Fund administered by TAR University College who had generously sponsored RM20,000 for the students of the Faculty of Accountancy, Finance and Business to purchase necessary materials for their fund-raising project.

The balance of funds raised amounting to RM18,797.45 was apportioned into two portions with one of it being used to buy school bags and stationery for Orang Asli students. The items were presented to them on 1 January 2016 at Perkampungan Orang Asli Gombak and the remaining portion will be used for charity projects in March this year.
