UM moves up 13 spots in QS World University Rankings 2016/17

The QS World University Rankings 2016/17 which was released on 6 September 2016 showed an upward momentum in many of Asia's leading higher education institutions. This included a stellar performance from Malaysia's public universities.
Universiti Malaya, which is also rated 5 QS stars, moved up 13 spots to clinch a rank of 133; Universiti Putra Malaysia moved to 270; Universiti Teknologi Malaysia 288; and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia 302. However, Universiti Sains Malaysia dropped to 330 position from 289.
The top position in the ranking is maintained by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) for the fifth consecutive year. Stanford University moved up one spot while Stanford University fell one spot. The remaining top 10 players remained from the previous year.
In Asia, the highest ranking went to National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University which hold steady at 12 and 13 respectively. Further down the list, Tsinghua University, China, climbs one place to joint 24th.
