Course Description

The Diploma in Nursing held at MAHSA University is a popular three year program. Its popularity lies in it being a program for a wide variety of young people with a wide variety of qualifications. At the same time, successful completion of the program leads to a huge choice of options for diploma in nursing holders – ranging from bedside nursing as a staff nurse to further professional and higher academic studies for those wishing to specialize.

At MAHSA University, our 3 year Diploma in Nursing develops students know how in nursing, enabling them to provide safe and competent care in various healthcare settings. The course combines theoretical learning in classrooms and practical training in simulation ward and skills lab. In addition, students will be required to attend practical placements in participating local hospitals. The strong emphasis in nursing knowledge and hands on training ensures graduates competency as Registered Nurses as well as giving them the advantage in the employee selection.

The curriculum for the Diploma in Nursing is based on the national requirements from the Malaysia Nursing Board and is fully approved. A feature of the program is that it gives the student a wide variety of experience in the different fields of nursing. By the end of the program, the student will be able to decide what particular area he or she wishes to join. This aspect is so important that MAHSA University arranges placements for successful candidates to guarantee a place in the healthcare services, either in the Government or private sectors.

The curriculum features studies in nursing as a profession, fundamentals of nursing care, transcultural nursing, microbiology, pharmacology, psychology, sociology, nutrition, medical-surgical nursing, orthopaedic nursing, accident and emergency nursing, accident and emergency nursing, mental health nursing, nursing of children, ophthalmic nursing, ear nose and throat nursing, gynaecological and maternity nursing, management in nursing, research in nursing and others. All these experiences are planned carefully to give an equal balance of theory and practice. The variety is there!

Entry Requirements
  • 5 Credits in Mathematics, Science (Biology / Physics / Chemistry / General Science (Sains Am), Bahasa Malaysia (local candidates) AND 2 other subjects (local candidates) / 3 other subjects (international candidates).
  • Pass in English & Sejarah (local candidates).
  • In addition to the above requirements, Foreign Candidates MUST obtain :
    English Proficiency is required for countries whereby medium of instruction is not in English: Pass in English (O-Level or equivalent to SPM 1119)
    IELTS 5.5; OR  TOEFL 550; OR
  • Health Status
    *Students must be certified medically fit by a registered Medical Practitioner recognised by the     recruiting institution
    *Student must not have any physical or impaired senses that hinders Nursing dexterity
    *Students with the following medical conditions,  HIV AIDS,  Hepatitis B or C, mental disorders,  *Epilepsy and other chronic diseases cannot be admitted into the programme

Career Prospects

Diploma graduates are employed in public and private hospitals, nursing homes, day care centres, haemodialysis centres, health centres (public), armed force clinics and hospitals, and Jabatan Hal Ehwal Orang Asli (JHEOA) Hospital.
