Course Description

The above programmes are designed as per the requirements of the Board of Engineers Malaysia and strictly follows the guidelines according to their Engineering Accreditation Manual. The major requirements are the Programme Educational Objectives and the Programme Outcomes.

In line with this the curriculums have been designed to incorporate the required objectives and outcomes.

The modules offered in this programme provides an appropriate platform for an Engineering professional to understand the basic principles of engineering in the areas of Circuit Analysis, Electrical and Electronic principles, Electronic Devices, Instrumentation and Measurement and Engineering materials. A sound exposure of laboratory work is also included by offering modules such as Engineering workshop and materials lab, and Electronic Devices and Circuits lab.

Further a thorough grounding in principles of IT and management are provided by the Programming and Management modules such as Engineering Mathematics and Introduction to programming provide the basic academic skills required to meet the demands of employers. The Engineer in Society provides students with the knowledge required as a professional engineer in terms of ethics and the environment.

In Year 2 you start specializing in modules that develop the necessary underlying knowledge and skills in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Further in-depth Electrical and Electronic skills are developed here with modules such as Analogue and Digital Electronics, AC and DC Machines and Electromagnetic Field Theory. To obtain practical hands-on skills in these areas special laboratory modules have also been included. A common theme that underlines all the awards is the development of innovative thinking with the Creativity and Innovation module.

Specialised knowledge and skills in the area of Control Engineering, Generation, Transmission and Distribution of Electrical Power, Utilisation of Electrical Energy, Power Electronics and Devices, Numerical and Statistical Techniques, Analogue Integrated Circuits and Microprocessors and Microcontrollers are a critical focus of this level. There is further development of the ability to apply relevant engineering skills with strong critical thinking and analysis. To support the project work in the final year, the Research Method for Engineers module will enable students to understand the techniques of literature review. Further understanding of the learning of the first three years of the programme can be exhibited by doing the Mini project.

Industry placement with a suitable organization for a minimum period of 12 weeks. This internship programme will start at the end of Year 3 and will be completed before the start of Year 4).


The final year Engineering modules provide the necessary industry application technological skills which become very useful for employment upon graduation. These modules include, Digital Signal and Image Processing, High Voltage Engineering, Power System Analysis, Engineering Project Management and VLSI Design. You will enhance your technical capability and understanding how to innovate, generate and manage the creation of new ideas and problem solving.

The Project Phase 1 (Investigation) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering will enable students to take on R&D with commercialization. The Electrical & Electronic Engineering Final Year Project Phase 2 (Implementation) also develops the academic and practical aspects of your chosen areas of study and reinforces your independent learning skills. This is where you will demonstrate higher level critical thinking analysis and solutions development skills which will enhance your employability.

An electrical engineer can be employed in the design and construction of power lines, in the control and management of power stations, or in the design and installation of electrical systems and machinery, such as transformers, electric motors and power electronics.

Electrical engineers will play an important role in the future development of a sustainable environment. There are wide ranges of challenging career paths available as an engineer, technologist or technician. Many Electronic engineers work in areas closely related to computers, medical devices, artificial intelligence and robotics. The focus of their work is often on designing new products, maintaining and testing electronic equipment and coming up with technical solutions to solve operating problems. Their work can also involve estimating the time and cost of engineering projects.
