Geophysics is the field of science dedicated to studying the Earth's structure, motion, rocks, and minerals. It involves the application of physical laws and principles to a study of the Earth and other astronomical bodies. Geophysical studies employ physical measurements and mathematical models to explore and analyze the structure and dynamics of the solid earth and similar bodies, and their fluid content.
The Geophysics Group conducts research in a wide variety of areas mostly related to applied geophysics and geosciences. Major research areas can be grouped into Atmospheric and Meteorological Science, Engineering and Environmental Geophysics, Petroleum Geoscience and Reservoir Petrophysics, Nearshore Oceanographic and Coastal Processes.
