Course Overview

This programme aims to prepare students with both sound theoretical understanding and empirical ability with respect to economic and finance issue. It aims to cultivate the critical thinking and analytical skills of the students in analysing economic issue and phenomenon. The programme provides opportunities for undergraduate to "do economics".

The learning outcomes of the programme emphasise largely on the ability of the undergraduates to comprehend the fundamentals concepts of economics and to scientifically apply the theories of economics and finance in understanding real-world economic issues. To attain this goal, the curriculum is thus designed to motivate active participation of students in teaching-learning interaction, and academic writing.

Graduates of the Bachelor of Economics (Honours) Financial Economics are eligible for certain exemptions from the professional examinations of  MACS. Besides, UTAR also entered the partnership with CIMA Finance Leadership Programme (FLP) to enable the Financial Economics students to access the CIMA Professional Qualification. Students will only need to complete 3 Case Studies exam to complete the professional qualification concurrently with the UTAR Bachelor of Economics (Honours) Financial Economics degree.

Entry Requirements

  • UTAR Foundation Programme
  • STPM: Grade C/C+ in 2 relevant subjects depending on the programmes (except M.B.B.S. and Quantity Surveying)
  • A-Level: Grade D in 2 or 3 relevant subjects
  • UEC: Grade B in 5 relevant subjects
  • SAM: ATAR 70 and Grade B in at least 2 relevant subjects
  • CPU: An average of 70% in 6 relevant subjects (depending on programmes)
