KYUEM: BEST DESTINATION FOR A LEVEL

Kolej Yayasan UEM (KYUEM) is an outstanding pre-university college. 

Its students gain excellent results in their Cambridge A-level examinations.  KYUEM students regularly gain admission to leading universities throughout the world. Along with the highest level of academic achievement, they are encouraged to develop the soft skills that employers now expect. They are taught how to take responsibility for their own actions. They are given opportunities to lead.

The college boasts an enviable record of A-level success. In 2016, 90% of students obtained A-level grades A*-B; 71% were A* or A; 57% gained at least three A grades at CIE A level. Twelve students gained either “Best in the World” or “Best in Malaysia” awards from the Cambridge International Examinations’ Board. Six students with offers from Cambridge University and one from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) account for the highest achievements of the current cohort. Other top-rated US and UK universities are also well represented. Each year around 80% of our students gain entries to top-ranked universities in the UK and the US.

Approximately 60% of KYUEM students are sponsored by both government and private organisations. The college has an enviable record of preparing students to read Accountancy, Actuarial Science, Architecture, Dentistry, Economics, Engineering, IT, Law, Life Sciences, Medicine, Pharmacy and many other, high ranking undergraduate programmes.

These outcomes have become common place at KYUEM since it was established in 1998. How is this level of success attained, year in year out?

KYUEM students are special. They are selected not only on grounds of academic ability, but also because they have already displayed qualities of commitment to and success in a range of other activities.

Students are well taught. KYUEM employs both local and expatriate teachers. They are all very well qualified, many having first class honours degrees, master’s degrees and doctorates. They are convinced of the value of their work. They all share in common a desire that their students should succeed. Everyone has high expectations of everyone else at KYUEM.

Students receive excellent coaching on how to work effectively and how to revise. They also receive excellent guidance about university applications.  Competition for places at the world’s leading universities is fiercer than it has ever been. Requirements for admission are higher than they have ever been.  KYUEM students are very well placed to meet these demands through the very well-informed university placement counselling they receive.

Fully residential and co-educational, the College is located about 70 km north of Kuala Lumpur in Lembah Beringin. Its location in a beautiful, conducive environment is ideal for academic, pre-university life.

Security is very important at any residential school and the KYUEM campus is patrolled by a team of security guards 24/7. The whole campus is also served by a state-of-the-art CCTV system, consisting of a large number of units to cover every part of the site.

For studying purposes, in addition to well-equipped and computer-enabled classrooms, the college possesses ten science laboratories, three IT labs and a superb Resource Centre. Extra-curricular activities and sports are similarly well catered for.

 

KYUEM is proud of its Olympic-size swimming pool, dedicated sports hall, squash courts, outdoor court facilities and a large, well-kept sports field for football and rugby. The Great Hall, which is used for major events such as examinations and performances, is well equipped with full sound and lighting facilities and there is a large, purpose-built mosque on the campus for Muslim students and staff.

Student accommodation consists of 4-bedroom villas, 2-bed chalets and an apartment block. Each unit has hot and cold water, and air conditioning. Three meals a day are provided at the Dining Hall, while further choices of food and beverages are available in a subsidised cafeteria on site. There is a purpose-built medical centre on campus, manned by three fully qualified nurses.
