The Melaka-Manipal Medical College (MMMC) was conceived from the ‘Look East Policy’ of the former Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who recognised the need for greater South-South cooperation in the economic, education and social sectors in line with the government’s objective of making the country leading educational hub in the region. MMMC is the first Indo-Malaysian joint venture private (professional) medical education and was established with the full support of the Ministry of Higher Education and Ministry of Health. The college also had the support of experienced medical and dental educationist from Manipal University who helped in the implementation of the medical and dental programmes.
Both the medical and dental programmes are conducted in collaboration with the renowned Manipal University, India. Manipal University is recognised for imparting high quality professional education and has been the preferred destination for students from over 50 countries.
The Manipal College of Dental Sciences (MCODS), the first private dental college in India and a constituent college of Manipal University was established in 1965 and stands as one of the finest centres of oral health care and dental education. The college was ranked No. 1 dental college in India by Outlook, the weekly News Magazine, in the 22 June, 2009 issue. To date, Manipal University provides the finest in education to over 20,000 students every year. It also has an active alumni base of over 80,000 students across the world.

The MBBS degree is recognised by the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) while BDS is approved by the Malaysian Dental Council (MDC).
