Background
The Melaka-Manipal Medical College (MMMC) was conceived from the ‘Look East Policy’ of the former Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who recognised the need for greater South-South cooperation in the economic, education and social sectors in line with the government’s objective of making the country leading educational hub in the region. MMMC is the first Indo-Malaysian joint venture private (professional) medical education and was established with the full support of the Ministry of Higher Education and Ministry of Health. The college also had the support of experienced medical and dental educationist from Manipal University who helped in the implementation of the medical and dental programmes.

Both the medical and dental programmes are conducted in collaboration with the renowned Manipal University, India. Manipal University is recognised for imparting high quality professional education and has been the preferred destination for students from over 50 countries.
The Manipal College of Dental Sciences (MCODS), the first private dental college in India and a constituent college of Manipal University was established in 1965 and stands as one of the finest centres of oral health care and dental education. The college was ranked No. 1 dental college in India by Outlook, the weekly News Magazine, in the 22 June, 2009 issue. To date, Manipal University provides the finest in education to over 20,000 students every year. It also has an active alumni base of over 80,000 students across the world.

Programme Outline
Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in collaboration with Manipal University, India [JPT/BPP (K) 1000-600/M411 (4)]
MMMC offer a 5 year twin campus programme of 10 semesters leading to the MBBS degree awarded by Manipal University, India.
Students are admitted in two batches annually in April and October. The eligibility is based on the guidelines of the regulatory bodies in Malaysia and admission is based on merit. The academic programme is student-centred with emphasis on self-directed learning, group discussion and problem solving.
Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) in Collaboration with Manipal University, India [KP (JPS) 600-03/542(97)]
The dental programme is a 5 year academic programme leading to the BDS degree which is awarded by Manipal University, India. The first two years is conducted at the Manipal Campus, India and the final three years conducted at the Melaka Campus, Malaysia.
Foundation in Science

Our Foundation in Science programme has been designed to provide students with a sound academic foundation for tertiary education especially in the medicine and dentistry programmes at MMMC and other health sciences programmes.
Academic Facilities & Resources
The MMMC campus is backed by world class infrastructure to ensure that all students who come here get inspired to pursue their career with zest and passion. Every teaching and learning centre is well-equipped with appropriate facilities to provide both teachers and students the best environment.
Academic facilities include lecture theatres, tutorial rooms, laboratories and a fully-equipped library.
MMMC places technology as a key factor to facilitate the teaching and learning process and to create techno-savvy environment for students. Therefore we ensure that the Information Technology System and facilities are up-to-date and accessible by the students.
Student Support Services & Student Development Activities
The Student Support Services and Development Activities are handled by the office of the Deputy Registrar. Students are assisted both in their personal and professional development. Other main services include:
- Admissions and Counseling
Our Programme Counsellors will provide a complete and thorough explanation of the courses offered, handle enrolment and provide other relevant information i.e. fees, scholarships, loan application, etc. - International Student and Visa Requirement
The Student Affairs Department has dedicated employees that are at hand to advise students on their visa application.

- Food Services
A cafeteria attached to the students’ hostel serves a wide menu for the needs of different groups of students. It is open from 7.00am to 9.00pm. - Recreational Facilities
Students can enjoy a wide variety of recreational facilities such as indoor games like table tennis and badminton, gym, swimming pool, squash court, aerobics room, sauna, basketball court, hockey court, football field, volley ball/net ball courts and tennis courts. - Hostel
There are adequate hostel rooms for all students provided on campus. The hostel rooms provided are air-conditioned, and fully furnished with an attached bathroom. Washing machines and dryers are available for the students.
Scholarship / Financial Aid
Bursary awards by the sponsoring agencies are granted to deserving students based on their academic and co-curricular achievements. Enquiries about grants and sponsorship should be made directly to the sponsoring agencies as the college is unable to provide financial support for students.
International Recognition & Achievements
The MBBS degree is recognised by the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) while BDS is approved by the Malaysian Dental Council (MDC). Melaka-Manipal Medical College MBBS programme is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools published by the AVICENNA Directory, The World Directory of Medical School and IMED (International Medical Education Directory, UK).
