The Foundation in Science (FIS) programme is a stepping stone for students who wish to pursue a challenging academic path in the medical and health or the pure and applied sciences faculties. Basic science subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics form the main thrust of this foundation programme. However, subjects such as Computer Applications, English and Critical Thinking have also been incorporated into the programme to give students an opportunity to develop essential skills and to give them a perspective on issues relating to the social world. Such exposure to other academic courses will provide students with essential knowledge of the wider world as well as develop in them transferable intellectual skills.
To better equip students to undertake their degree of choice, we now have three specialization courses in the third semester to furnish students with appropriate knowledge on the respective field:
The following courses make up the Foundation in Science (A 9504) programme curriculum:
Students’ ability is gauged through continuous assessments and a final semester examination. The continuous assesment component comprises acombination of: tests/quizzes, mid-term examination, laboratory related reports, essays, presentations and projects/assignments which accounts foran allocation of about 30-50 marks depending on the course. The balance of the marks is allocated for the final examination.
