Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) Achievements Posted: 08 December 2009; Category: Achievement UMP has added fourteen new medals to its collection of awards when our researchers brought home three golds, four silvers and seven bronzes from the 19th Invention, Innovation & Technology Exhibition (ITEX '08). The three-day exhibition, held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) from 9 to 11 May 2008, attracted the participation of about 400 hundred exhibitors from around the world. More than 600 exhibits were put on display for public viewing. UMP showcased 15 projects at the exhibition and all but one of them received awards from the event organizer, the Malaysian Invention and Design Society (MINDS).

University Malaya Achievements Posted: 08 December 2009; Category: Achievement The setting up of the Institute of Research Management and Consultancy (Institut Pengurusan Penyelidikan dan Perundingan, IPPP) was agreed by the University Senate on 23rd August 2000 and approved by the University Board of Directors on 11th October 2000. IPPP functions as a ‘one-stop’ centre to manage all research related activities in the University of Malaya. The Institute’s involve primarily planning, organizing, promoting, monitoring and evaluating research conducted by researchers in the University. It also provides services in the transfer of technology and commercialization of research outputs and products including providing consultancy services to the public and private sectors. The Institute is intended to realize the University’s desire to be a world class research university.

Sunway University College (SyUC) Achievements Posted: 08 December 2009; Category: Achievement Sunway University College (SyUC) considers that research aims to resolve fundamental issues and specific problems arising from the political, socio-economic and cultural environment. There is a place for basic research undertaken primarily to acquire new knowledge and applied research which develops or test existing knowledge. and is primarily directed towards either specific practical objectives or towards the evaluation of policies and practices. Both types of research will complement each other and thrive best when individual initiatives or group collaboration is encouraged within a framework of institutional strategic planning.

INTI University College Achievements Posted: 04 December 2009; Category: Achievement AS INTI-UC status as University College was only awarded in September 2006, research achievements are correspondingly at a beginning stage. However, we have produced Annual Research Reports for 2006 and for 2007. These were circulated to all staff in INTI-UC as well as branch campuses to ensure awareness of the research projects carried out during those years as well as publications resulting from them.

School of Graduate Studies, Asia E University Posted: 04 December 2009; Category: Achievement School of Graduate Studies has conducted a series of workshops on research methodology, and data analyses, and was well received by the participants with an average rating of 3.5 out of 5. A workshop was also conducted in Kuching, Sarawak on 21 June 2009.

Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Achievements Posted: 04 December 2009; Category: Achievement While we have always maintained a strong focus on agriculture, science and technology, our cutting edge advances have really borne fruit in the agro-biotech sector. To date, UPM has filed the highest number of patents – 169 – among universities, the highest record for a Malaysian university. We have also commercialized 15 products so far, from which sales generated amounted to RM32 million. Among our notable research breakthroughs is the Fast Target White Spot Virus Detection Kit, which saved the shrimp industry from near collapse in the late 1990s. It was estimated that this Kit saved shrimp farmers about RM72 million in potential losses. ZAPPA, the rice seeds germination enhancer, and Vita-Grow, the growth and yield enhancer have, together, generated about RM23.7 million in sales. In making strides, UPM has quickened the pace of technology transfer to benefit local industries, thus relying less on importing expensive foreign technologies. A recent innovation – Recombinant Pneumonic Mannheimia Vaccine - was sold for RM4 million plus 25% equity to a spin-off company.
