Background of Institution

Due to the dynamic growth and demand for professionals in the hospitality, tourism and services industry as well as the diverse resources that Berjaya Corporation Group of Companies has in these industries with their many hotels, resorts, golf clubs and franchises, the Ministry of Higher Education extended an exclusive invitation to the company on 4 April 2007 to establish a niche education institution of higher learning dedicated to specialising and championing the growth and development of the hospitality, tourism and services industries. The BERJAYA University College of Hospitality (BERJAYA UCH) received its license to operate as an institution of higher learning on 15 November 2008, offering programmes related to hospitality, tourism, culinary arts and business management from foundation to undergraduate levels.

What Makes Us Special ?

BERJAYA UCH’s cosmopolitan city campus is located at Berjaya Times Square, in the golden triangle of the capital of Malaysia - Kuala Lumpur. Students can benefit from the integrated learning experience gained from the hospitality, tourism and service-related businesses within and surrounding the city campus. Totalling approximately 100,000 square feet, the city campus is located on the 11th Floor (West) and 14th Floor (East) and comprises chic and sleek facilities.

The support of the Berjaya Group of Companies plays an integral part in industry placements at their local and international hotels, resorts and clubs and provide a platform for students to gain experience and exposure,
thereby enhancing their skills and knowledge in a global work environment. The students also get first priority in filling up permanent positions within the subsidiaries of the group.

Programme Outline

We offer programmes related to hospitality, tourism, culinary arts and business management from foundation
to undergraduate levels. These programmes are offered by six schools, namely, the School of Culinary Arts, School of Hospitality, School of Tourism, School of Business, School of Liberal Arts, and School of Sports, Leisure & Lifestyle.

Academic Strength & Teaching-Learning Resources

The commitment towards professional excellence at BERJAYA UCH focusses on ‘human development’ and attention to detail in teaching and learning that are unique qualities which differentiate BERJAYA UCH from the rest. Called the BERJAYA Immersion Methodology, a significant part of the approach is dependent on the innovative academic and industrial based curriculum, delivered both inside and outside the classrooms and is based on the ‘Learning by Doing’ principle. This methodology teaches the students how to apply their knowledge and skills in real-life situations and educate them to think critically, communicate effectively, work productively and manage professionally right from the day they start.

Research Strength and Innovation

The Centre of Research Excellence is where our academicians put their heads together to find ways to improve the industry and explore other important methods that will benefit our students and the University College in general.

International Student Support Services & Financial Assistance

Accommodation is available for international students at Plaza Berjaya, Axis Residence and Awana Puri. They
are conveniently located close to the city campus, convenience stores and transportation hubs. Students are given opportunities to join an array of developmental programmes, both personal and professional to improve
their knowledge, skills and attitudes. Besides, students are encouraged to join the student council, sports council or international students association to enhance their leadership skills. Counselling services are also available. Our affiliation with the Berjaya Corporation Group of Companies also allows us to host several bursary schemes and education scholarships made available to students such as such as the Tan Sri Vincent Tan’s Entrance Scholarship which offers varying percentages of tuition fee waivers based on students’ academic performance. The Berjaya Cares Foundation also offers scholarships to eligible candidates from countries where Berjaya Corporation Group of Companies has businesses, to study for a relevant tertiary qualification at BERJAYA UCH.

Student Views

Ben Chen, Canada

Hospitality Management, 3 Years

This is the second time I have come to Malaysia but this has been my longest stay. The first time I came I was only 10 years old and that was for a Taekwondo competition as well as vacation. Ten years later, I came back here initially for the same reason but then a family member persuaded me to join Berjaya University College of Hospitality.

The life in Malaysia compared to Canada is very different. It has taken me a year and half to get used to the heat and I am still trying to adapt. The one thing I love about Malaysia is that the food is great to eat, and as Malaysia is known to be “food heaven” that is all the more better for me, seeing as though I love food. The daily lifestyle in Malaysia is much different from back home and the climate and food has made an outbreak of pimples on my face so now I must really control the food I eat which is extremely hard to do. The people are kind and friendly and with the diverse languages here it is really testing my tongue, and on top of that it is an advantage to have a few more languages up my sleeve. The overall experience of Malaysia has been a great one and never ceases to amaze me, which is why Malaysia will always have a place in my heart.

Hiromi Rhondalee Granger, Zimbabwe

Hospitality Management, 3 Years

Studying in Malaysia has been a completely different experience. Joining Berjaya University College has given me the opportunity to be exposed to a number of different cultures, cuisine and people all at once. Learning in Malaysia is exciting because every day, I learn something different, new and interesting. I have learnt to take risks, understand different cultures and people and embrace every experience I have in this diverse country. The people in Malaysia are all friendly and pleasant to talk to. Malaysia offers a bit of everything and so far my journey in Malaysia has been unforgettable, queer, interesting and fun.
