“21st century teaching and learning methodology – UNIEC (UNITAR Education Core)”

UNIEC (UNITAR Education Core) is UNITAR’s 21st century holistic, innovative learning which is the essence of UNITAR’s teaching and learning. The learner centered learning environment is seamless anytime, anywhere while engagement between lecturers and students deemed essential for learning can take place in a virtual platform. UNITAR acknowledges that learning does not take place only in classrooms hence UNIEC provides learning environment across time and place.
UNITAR employs a ‘blended-learning’ mode where students’ learning is a combination of face-to-face interaction (known as UNIEC Face) and online interaction (UNIEC Virtual) plus UNIEC Profiling where they can customise their own learning environment. Our lecturers are also implementing different teaching methods, for example, a ‘flipped classroom’ where students review their lesson before the start of the class so that they will have more time to do hands-on activities under the lecturer’s guidance. Thus, engagement of learning encompass different methods and strategies as part of UNIEC learning environment.

UNIEC has various initiatives such as the campus management system (UNIEC Campus), learning management system (UNIEC Virtual), UNIEC E-Books, UNIEC Space, Student Profiling System, communication tools such as 0365 Microsoft emails, social media and others. These systems are designed to be user-friendly. Workshops are also conducted during orientation, while UNIEC Clinics are conducted throughout the semester. Besides that, students can also walk-in to the Open Stop Centre for assistance. UNIEC Virtual, the virtual learning platform, is very simple and it is a combination of communication tool, collaboration tool, creation tool, sharing tool, analyzing tool and also personalizing tool under one system. It is just like using other Web 2.0 tools available out there. However, we are concentrating on using it for education purposes
UNITAR’s mission is to produce well-rounded graduates by ensuring a holistic development throughout their studies in UNITAR. To ensure that all graduates are competent and equipped with the skills of the 21st century, we instill students with these skills within the University’s learning environment: critical thinking skills; communication skills; productivity and accountability skills; skills in accessing, analysing and synthesising information; entrepreneurial skills, global citizenship, innovative skills, adaptability, collaboration skills, and lastly, leadership skills .

Student Testimonials
![]() Jennifer Joyce Simanjuntak, IndonesiaBachelor of Hospitality Management (Hons), Graduated Knowing that the tertiary education in Malaysia offers reasonable tuition fees and vast options in educational institutions for hospitality management programmes, I began my studies in the Bachelor of Hospitality Management (BHM) at UNIRAZAK in January 2007. The reason why I chose BHM with a specialisation in Tourism at UNIRAZAK is that the programme prepares and grooms me to be who I am now and where I will be in the tourism industry. The lectures were conducted by a combination of elite academics and real case studies which opened my eyes to the happenings in the tourism industry. |

![]() Lim Chong SengMBA After making my comparisons on the various MBA programmes being offered locally, I found UNITAR to be the only university / institution that had incorporated IT as part of its MBA curriculum. At UNITAR, much emphasis is given in using IT to relate, communicate, teach, learn and work. The courses that I have enrolled so far allow for the sharing of views between students and the course leader. The courses are highly practical, meaning that there is a great deal of effort by the course leaders to teach, train and advocate actual business practices in the real world instead of the purely academic work. My peers at UNITAR consist of working people like me. They have contributed in enriching my study experience by providing new insights about industries and organizations where they work to make the discussion during the face to face tutorial and the online tutorial very real for me. The course leaders are also helpful and committed although I can sense that they are busy with other aspects of work beyond teaching. The facilities at UNITAR are modern and very IT in ambiance. In fact, when I first walked into the Kelana Jaya Study Centre, I was awed by it. |
