Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) is the 14th public university established in Malaysia. It first became fully autonomous as a university college on 1 July 2001 and was renamed Universiti Malaysia Terengganu on 1 February 2007. UMT is located along the South China Sea in Kuala Terengganu and not far from Lake Kenyir, the largest man-made lake in South-east Asia. Its strategic location makes UMT among the top public universities in a number of specialised fields such as oceanography and marine science. A peaceful environment, experienced staff and a friendly community makes UMT an institution that is conducive in teaching and learning.
In the aspect of research, UMT has been and continues to strive for excellence in the fields of sciences, technology, and management of natural resources. UMT also expands its opportunities, scope and research activities in maritime studies, economics, management, basic sciences, physical sciences, engineering and computing. Achievements and awards received by senior researchers at various exhibitions and research competitions at national and international levels is proof that these fields of studies were recognised. The slogan of UMT, Ocean of Discoveries definitely describes that UMT’s efforts in innovation meet the aspirations of the nation.

The unit manages all credited co-curricular programmes, which is compulsory for all students. Co-curricular programmes are pided into five components; uniform clubs, leadership clubs, cultural clubs, martial-arts clubs and sports clubs. Presently, there are 46 courses handled by this unit.
The Student Council is an association that speaks for the students. Activities which include moral and ethics, arts and culture, voluntary services as well as sports and recreation are organised by the various student clubs. The following are activities organised regularly by the student clubs:
