The Polytechnic and Community College Education Department of Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia has announced the opening of applications for admission to Session 2: 2024/2025 certificate and diploma programmes at 36 polytechnics and 105 community colleges throughout the country via the MyPolyCC e-Form from 3 April 2024 at 5.00 p.m. to 9 June 2024 at 5 p.m. For more information, go to their website at ambilan.mypolycc.edu.my

The Phase 1 application was open from 29 February 2024 to 29 March 2024. Those who applied can check their results online via “SEMAKAN”. Those who accept the offer are required to acknowledge their willingness to attend an interview / facilitate a supervision of their portfolio. Candidates must abide by the rules and guidelines stipulated by the institutions for the interview or the portfolio supervision.

A special line (Laluan Khas) has been opened for certificate graduates from Community Colleges (Session 2: 2023/2024) who are currently undergoing their industrial training. These graduates can send in their application starting from 18 April 2024 at 12.00 p.m. to 28 June 2024 5 p.m. via e-Borang Laluan Khas. Results for their application can also be viewed through this special line beginning 8 August 2024.

Application for Phase 2 for all programmes can be submitted through the website

e-Borang MyPolyCC (https://ambilan.mypolycc.edu.my/eborangdiploma/logineborang124.aspx) and there is no need to purchase a pin number.

The applications are open to SPM graduates of previous years, graduates of polytechnics and community colleges, vocational colleges, Penang Regional Development Authority, MARA Skills Institute, Malaysian Agricultural institute and Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia (Level 3).

Applications are also open to students who have completed Form 5, including those from special education schools offering 13 Exclusive Education Programmes for Persons with Disabilities (OKU) at 5 Polytechnics and 13 community colleges. This is specifically for OKU students with hearing and learning disabilities.

Besides all the above, those with Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) certificates are also eligible to apply.

As for the programmes offered, two new programmes have been added. They are

  1. Diploma of EngineeringTechnology in Electrical and Electronics (Marine)
  2. Diploma in Marine Construction Engineering Technology .

A few Community Colleges are now running micro-credential courses on a pilot basis. These colleges include:

  1. Bandar Penawar Community College
  2. Pasir Gudang Community College
  3. Pagoh Community College

This is in line with the aim to encourage lifelong learning. The Community College System in Malaysia provides a wide range of technical and vocational education training courses.

They offer 4 types of programmes -

  • Community College Certificate - full time for 3 semesters followed by 4 to 6 months of industrial training.
  • Special Skills Certificate (for people with learning disabilities/difficulties)
  • Work Based Learning Diploma
  • Lifelong Learning (short courses)

All the above programmes serve to empower individuals to assess post secondary education/degree courses, to acquire knowledge and skills to enhance their standard of living, to inculcate interest to constantly upskill themselves for the job market.

Community Colleges have certainly provided an avenue for almost anyone to pursue an education after Form 5 or after many years of working experience. The entry requirements for community colleges are not demanding. To apply you should

  • be a Malaysian citizen
  • pass your SPM or
  • fulfil other requirements stipulated by MQA

Applicants for the Special Skills Certificate course must have completed Form 5 in a Special School or have undergone a Special Integrated Programme under the Ministry of Education.

Some reasons for considering a Polytechnic/ Community College Education:

  1. They are administered by the Ministry of Education Malaysia. This lends credibility to all the courses.
  2. The programmes offered are accredited by the MQA.
  3. These institutions are located throughout the country.
  4. The tuition fee is reasonable/affordable.
  5. Good job prospects upon graduation.
